Capacity and runtime

Read tank capacity and steam-time claims together.

Water capacity and “minutes per fill” answer different questions. The first is the reservoir's nominal volume. The second is generally a manufacturer-stated duration under unspecified or particular settings. Both are useful clues, but neither predicts the exact number of shirts a steamer will finish for you.

Capacity is not session length

A larger reservoir contains more water by volume. It may reduce how often you refill during a batch, but that does not automatically tell you how long it produces steam or how much steam it delivers in each mode. Compare capacity units carefully: an ounce value and a milliliter value may be rounded, and a tank that is “removable” is a different filling arrangement from one described as fixed.

For an upright steamer, determine whether the quoted capacity belongs to a removable tank, a boiler or a package that varies by version. For a handheld steamer, ask how you refill it and whether the filled appliance's weight is listed. Do not transfer capacity from a larger sibling or assume an accessory bottle is part of the package.

Read “up to” as a ceiling

A statement such as “up to 12 minutes” is not a guaranteed runtime for every garment or setting. Suction, steam intensity, trigger control, pauses and the manufacturer's test conditions can matter. A model may provide one total figure even though it has several settings. Unless the source reports output and duration by mode, do not pretend the numbers can be combined into a precise use-time estimate.

Steam output, often stated in grams per minute, is a separate specification. A higher value does not by itself establish better wrinkle release on silk, a heavy coat or a garment with layered seams. It is best used to distinguish documented designs, not as an independent ranking or a substitute for actual fabric-care instructions.

Translate the numbers into your routine

Ask how many garments you normally refresh before you can pause. A person who steams a single outfit may care more about quick setup and where to place the cooled device. Someone working through a laundry basket may care more about capacity, refill time and a longer stated duration. If you are buying for a shared household or a small studio, consider where a full reservoir and hose/base will be stored.

When you compare two versions, check their exact model codes and manufacturer pages side by side. A larger “Deluxe” tank may support a longer stated run while leaving steam output unchanged; that is a capacity convenience, not evidence of a stronger heater. A lower-capacity version may still suit a short routine. The actual difference should be stated from the relevant model documentation rather than inferred from the name.

Shop with a source in front of you

Keep a note of the model, tank capacity, stated duration, output, refill arrangement and any conditions in the manual. If a listing omits a model code or merges several variants, treat the configuration as unresolved until the seller can identify it. Verify the package and current manual before using a number to plan your session.

The finder treats unknown values as unable to satisfy an essential minimum. That is intentional: missing evidence is not a smaller tank, nor is it proof of a larger one. A good comparison can tell you what is documented and what still needs checking; it cannot replace a test on your own garments.

Use the current published boundaries carefully

Minimum tank capacity

Model-specific capacity thresholds: On the exact maker-listed figures, HS04’s 80 mL is about 2.71 oz, IS900’s 100 mL about 3.38 oz, HS15’s 110 mL about 3.72 oz, HS100’s 150 mL about 5.07 oz, and SS1500’s 1.1 L about 37.20 oz; these values belong to different handheld or station arrangements. They are capacity conversions, not fill tests or runtime estimates. HS04 clears a 2.5 oz floor but not 3; IS900 clears 3 but not 3.5; HS15 clears 3.5 but not 4; HS100 clears 5 but not 5.5; SS1500 clears 37 but not 37.5. These SALAV configurations do not collapse into one “compact steamer” class: HS04 and HS15 are brief-session handhelds with different settings and volumes, HS100 is a handheld hybrid with a separate horizontal iron plan, IS900 is a base-and-hose station, and SS1500 is a larger base-and-hose station whose table lists no hanger. Its vertical board-free plan assumes a separate suitable hanger; its volume and 80-minute claim do not make it handheld-only. HS04 review · HS15 review · HS100 review · IS900 review · SS1500 review

SALAV upright capacity evidence: Exact manufacturer pages list 1.8 L (about 60.87 oz) for GS18, GS44 and GS45, all above the form's 52 oz maximum. GS24's GS24-BJ manual record gives 1.5 L (about 50.72 oz), clearing 50.5 oz but not 51 oz. GS06's model-specific capacity field/table says 1.3 L (about 43.96 oz), clearing 43.5 oz but not 44 oz; other copy on that same page says 1.8 L, so verify the exact label before relying on that boundary. X3's 3 L tank record has a conflicting 1.8 L package-list entry, while GS66 and GS49 each list 1.8 L. These are manufacturer specifications and documented conflicts, not our measurements. Useful high-capacity thresholds: Twenty entries meet a 43.5 oz minimum; at 44 oz, GS06 falls below its selected 43.96 oz table value and nineteen remain. At 44.5 oz, eighteen qualify. Seventeen meet 50.5 oz; the next step at 51 oz excludes both SALAV GS24 and Rowenta Steam Board 450, each near 50.72 oz, leaving fifteen. Fifteen entries meet the maximum 52 oz tank request. The finder link at each threshold shows every configuration that meets that exact condition.

The exact-model records publish 5 oz for AeroSteam Twist; 7 oz for Twist Deluxe and the Pure Force Copper DR8855U1 technical table; 7.1 oz for Pure Force DR8822U1 and DR8865U1; 6.8 oz for Pure Tex DR9530U1; 2.4 oz in each Pure Pop finish's technical table; 13.5 oz for Duo Force JR4031U1; and 7.3 oz for the blue Conair GS38R (page SKU GS38L). Conair's GSP1X family manual states a maximum fill of 50 mL, approximately 1.69 US fluid ounces. GSC24, GS108, GS23X and champagne GS59X sources reviewed here do not publish capacity; their unknown reservoirs cannot satisfy a hard minimum. The standalone ESTEAM and the handheld unit in each converter kit list 8 oz. Bundle item 3007 contains two separate ESTEAMs, each with its own 8 oz tank; items 3005 and 3000 each include one 8 oz ESTEAM plus a J-2000-family upright whose listed three-quarter-gallon/96 oz tank belongs to that separate appliance. The matcher evaluates a supported unit plan and never treats a package as one summed reservoir. The Pro-Line J-4000, J-4000i and factory-refurbished J-2S-R pages list one gallon (128 US fluid ounces), and the Jiffy J-2000 family, including factory-refurbished J-2000-R item 0809, lists 0.75 US gallon (96 US fluid ounces); each upright figure remains a per-unit maker specification, not a runtime conversion. Rowenta's Full Size entries add 50.72 oz for Steam Board 450 QR1214U1, 39.58 oz for IXEO Vision QR1811U1, 34 oz for each QR1410U1 and QR1411U1, 44 oz for Pro Style Care IS8440U1 and 52 oz for ProStyle IS3440U1. These are nominal manufacturer values: the Copper page's copy/table discrepancy, Pure Pop's 2.3/2.4 oz copy/table difference, and Origin Travel's unreported reservoir remain explicit rather than being rounded into assumed values.

The Pro-Line J-4000, J-4000i and factory-refurbished J-2S-R list one gallon (128 US fl oz), so all three stay in every valid tank case through the finder's 52 oz maximum; their larger reservoirs do not imply a runtime conversion. The J-2000 family including refurbished J-2000-R item 0809 lists 0.75 gallon / 96 US fl oz, also above the form's 52 oz maximum; mixed bundle items 3005 and 3000 have their own 96 oz upright component and therefore remain matches even after their handheld 8 oz component falls below the request. The Conair GS38R tank is a useful 0.5 oz-step boundary: its exact page lists 7.3 oz, so it clears a 7 oz minimum but is below the next 7.5 oz step. At a 1.5 oz floor, forty-four records match; at 2 oz the GSP1X leaves and forty-three remain, while all three Jiffy bundle records still match through a supported 8 oz ESTEAM plan. At 2.5 oz, First Class and Pure Pop fall below the minimum and forty-one remain. At 5 oz, thirty-eight entries match, including the bundle products through their 8 oz handheld plans; mixed items 3005 and 3000 also have separate 96 oz upright plans. At 7.5 oz, thirty records remain, including qualifying 8 oz ESTEAM plans and station-format SS1500. The 34 oz minimum admits twenty-four entries; at 34.5 oz the two 34 oz QR14XX models fall out and twenty-two remain, including the two mixed bundles on their 96 oz upright plans. At 39.5 oz, twenty-one records meet the minimum, including Vision at 39.58 oz and both mixed packages; at 40 oz Vision drops and twenty remain. At 44 oz, nineteen qualify; at 44.5 oz Pro Style Care falls out and eighteen remain, including the mixed Jiffy packages through their 96 oz upright plans. At the upper end, seventeen records meet 50.5 oz and fifteen meet 51 oz; both SALAV GS24 and Steam Board 450 list about 50.72 oz and fall below the 51 oz step. At 47 oz, eighteen entries match, including two mixed packages through their J-2000-family components; at 48 oz Home Steam falls away and seventeen remain. These are comparisons of published per-appliance volumes, not predictions of garment count or steam time.

At exactly 8 oz, thirty records match; the standalone ESTEAM and its two converter packages plus all three Jiffy bundles meet the boundary through a separate 8 oz handheld appliance each. The 3005 and 3000 mixed packages also retain upright J-2000-family plans. At the next valid 8.5 oz step, twenty-six records remain: the three single-ESTEAM configurations and item 3007 fall out, but items 3005 and 3000 still match through their separate 96 oz upright components. The J-2 family manual lists 120 minutes for J-2S-R, while the exact refurb page's one-minute steam-ready claim differs from the manual's two-minute preheat with maximum water. The family duration exceeds the finder's 50-minute ceiling; these published figures are not measured guarantees. Compare the maximum valid duration request → · Read J-2S-R's exact refurbished configuration assessment

The Pro-Line J-4000 and J-4000i use 105 minutes for matching because the product pages say 1 hour 45 minutes while the family manual says approximately two hours; both clear the form’s 50-minute ceiling, but this is a published comparison, not measured runtime. Their lower exact-page value remains separate from the J-2 family manual's 120-minute figure. The exact Rowenta pages list four minutes for Origin Travel and each Pure Pop finish, seven minutes for Pure Tex DR9530U1, twelve for AeroSteam Twist, Pure Force DR8822U1 and the two 3-in-1 Pure Force models, sixteen for Twist Deluxe, 35 for Home Steam and Pro Style Care IS8440U1, and 50 for each IXEO QR14XX finish and ProStyle IS3440U1. Conair's GS23X and GS38R product pages each state up to 15 minutes per fill; GS59X lists up to 20 minutes. The standalone ESTEAM and each separate ESTEAM converter bundle use the maker's 15-minute per-fill figure. New bundle item 3007 holds two separate ESTEAMs, each with the same per-unit 15-minute claim; items 3005 and 3000 add separate J-2000S/J-2000 upright plans whose J-2000-family figure is 90 minutes. The 2025 Jiffy manual lists 90 minutes for the J-2000 family, including factory-refurbished J-2000-R item 0809; this is a family specification, not a timed result for that refurb item or bundle unit. The Steam Board 450 QR1214U1 and IXEO Vision QR1811U1 list 150 minutes per fill, though neither table ties that large figure to a named steam level; Duo Force JR4031U1 lists 45 minutes while its supporting copy describes up to 45 minutes of ironing. These are manufacturer claims, not independently measured or necessarily comparable results.

Origin Travel DR1050U1 remains a numeric match at a 4-minute minimum because its exact page lists up to four minutes per fill. At 5 minutes, Origin Travel's four-minute maker-stated ceiling falls short. GSC24's reviewed sources do not publish per-fill time, so its documented dual voltage cannot satisfy an essential duration minimum. Treat these as maker claims and evidence limits, not measured runtime. Find models meeting 4 minutes → · Raise the same numeric minimum to 5 → · Read Origin Travel · Read GSC24

At a 4-minute minimum, forty-four records with published per-fill time meet their maker-stated duration; GSC24, GS108 and GSP1X do not have a documented runtime and do not count as confirmed matches. At 7 minutes, forty-one remain; Origin Travel and Pure Pop fall below that duration. At 8 minutes, Pure Tex also drops out, leaving forty. At 12 minutes, thirty-six products match; at 15 minutes thirty-two entries remain, including the standalone ESTEAM, both converter packages and all three Jiffy bundle records through an individual 15-minute handheld plan, along with GS23X and GS38R; GS59X states up to 20 minutes. At 16 minutes, item 3007's two ESTEAMs and the existing single-ESTEAM configurations fall below their 15-minute claim, as do GS23X and GS38R; twenty-six higher-duration records remain, including mixed bundle items 3005 and 3000 via their separate 90-minute upright plans. At 17 minutes, twenty-five remain, including the two mixed bundles through J-2000-family plans. At 20 minutes, GS59X still meets its page claim and twenty-five records match; at 21 minutes GS59X falls below the threshold, leaving twenty-four, while the J-2000 bundles remain through their separate upright plans. Rowenta iron-format duration boundary: The First Class DA1610U1 technical table lists 10 minutes per fill, so it meets the 10-minute floor and leaves at 11. Rowenta's Pro Master DW8360U1 page displays “0 min” in its autonomy field; this placeholder and its general manual do not establish a usable per-fill duration, so the matcher treats its time as unknown, not zero. At 10 minutes, thirty-nine records match; at 11 minutes, thirty-six remain. Neither figure is a measured session. Duration threshold decision: Exact SALAV duration claims now span five minutes for HS04, eight for HS100, ten minutes for HS15 and IS900, and eighty minutes for station-format SS1500; each is a manufacturer per-fill claim, and SS1500 remains above the questionnaire’s 50-minute ceiling.

Capacity and runtime interaction: With upright, board-free use, a 43.5 oz tank minimum and 46 minutes required, seventeen entries match. GS06 is present on the selected 43.96 oz capacity-table value and its 46-minute maker claim; raising only the tank minimum to 44 oz leaves sixteen and removes GS06. Numeric comparisons do not override format. Requiring a handheld, at least 7 oz and at least 16 stated minutes selects AeroSteam Twist Deluxe and Duo Force JR4031U1; the former documents suction while Duo Force is a one-setting iron-steamer with a separate mat. The ESTEAM components in items 3007, 3005 and 3000 each list 8 oz but only 15 minutes, so none meets this handheld 16-minute case; the 90-minute J-2000 component in items 3005 and 3000 is an upright plan, not a handheld runtime. Aqua Green DR8822U1 and both 3-in-1 models list 12 minutes, Pure Tex lists 6.8 oz and seven minutes, Pure Pop lists 2.4 oz and four minutes, and Origin Travel's tank is unreported. For upright format with at least 47 oz and 35 minutes, seventeen entries match: Home Steam, factory-refurbished J-2S-R, Steam Board 450, ProStyle, the Jiffy J-2000 family, both mixed Jiffy bundles, Pro-Line J-4000/J-4000i and SALAV GS18, GS44, GS45, GS49, GS66 and X3. SteamStylist GSP1X is another handheld with a board-free hanging-steam plan, but its 50 mL (about 1.69 oz) tank falls below a 7 oz minimum and no per-fill runtime is stated. The exact evidence for this hybrid therefore cannot clear the combined 7 oz / 16-minute scenario.

Verified travel voltage does not fill a capacity gap

Three handheld configurations in the current assessments document 120/240 V operation: Rowenta Origin Travel DR1050U1, Conair Power Steam GSC24 and Rowenta First Class DA1610U1. Origin lists up to four minutes but no tank volume; GSC24 does not publish per-fill capacity or time; First Class lists 2 oz and 10 minutes in its technical table but its FAQ says about 2.4 oz. This comparison uses the lower table capacity. Set the exact unit’s voltage selector to match the local supply and check the rating label; none of these voltage claims answers destination plug, frequency or airline questions.

No reviewed handheld model meets confirmed dual voltage and at least 5 oz of published tank capacity together. Origin Travel and GSC24 have unknown tank volume, and First Class is listed at 2 oz in its technical table, so none clears this essential numeric filter; the Pro-Line J-4000/J-4000i are upright and explicitly separate 120 V / 230 V versions, not dual-voltage models; the newer Conair GS23X, GS38R and GS59X also do not establish dual-voltage support, and GS23X/GS59X tank capacities are unknown. GS38R's listed 7.3 oz capacity cannot overcome its unverified voltage. The three ESTEAM steamer packages have a documented 8 oz capacity but the exact U.S. appliance is 120 V; external converter bundles do not meet the built-in dual-voltage question. These are evidence gaps, not proof that a physical reservoir is smaller than five ounces or that a product elsewhere must lack dual voltage. The AeroSteam pages do not establish dual voltage; DR20XX instructions specify 120 V for Pure Pop, DR88xx/DT88xx instructions identify 120 V / 60 Hz for Pure Force, and the JR40XX instructions specify 120 V / 60 Hz for Duo Force. Jiffy offers separate 120 V and 230 V versions, not one confirmed dual-voltage handheld. Other reviewed Rowenta uprights do not add a confirmed dual-voltage match.
